ChapterGen — Privacy Policy

Overview

ChapterGen is a Chrome extension that generates AI-powered chapters for YouTube videos. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

Data We Collect

• Video ID and title: When you click "Generate Chapters," we send the YouTube video ID and title to our server to fetch the transcript and generate chapters. This data is not stored after processing.
• Anonymous device identifier: A randomly generated ID stored locally in your browser to track free tier usage (3 videos/month). This ID is not linked to your identity.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email, or any personal information.
• We do not access your YouTube account or Google account.
• We do not track your browsing history.
• We do not use cookies or third-party trackers.
• We do not sell or share any data with third parties.

API Keys

If you choose to use your own Anthropic API key, it is stored locally in your browser's extension storage and is never sent to our servers. It is only sent directly to the Anthropic API.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Anthropic Claude API: To generate chapter titles from video transcripts. Transcripts are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
• Google Cloud Run: To host our backend server. See Google Cloud Privacy Notice.

Data Retention

Video transcripts and generated chapters are processed in real-time and are not stored on our servers after the response is sent.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page.
